One of the commenters on my blog \u2014 I seriously wonder, sometimes, whether he might be a liberal trying to make conservatives look silly \u2014 responded to my post \u201cWhy don\u2019t Muslims in the United Kingdom condemn terrorism?\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHahahahahahahaha,\u201d he argued, declaring that the Evening Standard<\/em> article cited in that post \u201cis pushing a false narrative to serve the commie liberal agenda.\u201d \u00a0(Everybody with whom he disagrees, or pretends to disagree, is a \u201ccommie liberal.\u201d)<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe article is all lies,\u201d he explained, \u201cand the photos have been proven to be a set up, staged by CNN. There is a video showing the whole \u2018Muslims praying\u2019 was STAGED! The people who shot the video of the news staging the Muslims was [sic<\/em>] called names by the news outlet crew members.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

(Honestly, I don\u2019t quite know what that last sentence means. \u00a0Your guess is as good as mine.)<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Muslims,\u201d he further declared, \u201cwere given the signs, told where to stand, the crew members put down the flowers and stuffed animals after the Muslims were told where to stand, and the Caucasion [sic<\/em>]\u00a0police were told to get out of the picture to make room for non Caucasion [sic<\/em>]\u00a0police.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

By the way Caucasian<\/em> is a fairly slippery category, but Arabs are often reckoned Caucasian by people who care about such things (I don\u2019t), and Iranians and Pakistanis quite unquestionably are<\/em> \u201cCaucasian\u201d under typical definitions of the word. \u00a0Or, better, \u201cIndo-European.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The quoted paragraph above may, though, perhaps reveal some sort of racism. \u00a0I\u2019m very leery of leveling the charge of racism, but I get nervous when anybody irrelevantly begins to differentiate Caucasians from non-Caucasians and seems to be using the term in a sloppy fashion more familiar from a certain prominent European country\u2019s 1930s and 1940s ideology\u00a0than from modern speech.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police were in on the staging,\u201d he continues, hinting at a larger conspiracy to deceive the rest of us.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

This was, he says, \u201cThe same police force whose officers ran away from the Muslim attackers at the pub, leaving citizens to use chairs against the Muslim stabbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Has anybody else heard about this alleged \u201crunning away\u201d?<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

My understanding is that the perpetrators of the London Bridge attack had been shot by the police within just eight minutes of the start of their murderous spree:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Why on earth is the president of the United States of America picking a fight with the Lord Mayor of London?<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

CNN: \u00a0\u201cTrump lashes out at London Mayor Sadiq Khan, again\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Is it, perhaps, because Mayor Sadiq Khan is a Muslim?<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I find the spectacle more than a bit embarrassing, and entirely inappropriate.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

At least, though, he\u2019s elevated his target from tweeting attacks on a former Miss Universe<\/a>. \u00a0That\u2019s progress, I guess.<\/p>\n
