We spent some time in Harvard\u2019s art museums on Saturday, particularly concentrating on Impressionism and on artifacts from the Islamic world.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
But my real purpose for being there was to examine the original, handwritten manuscript of William James\u2019s famous Gifford Lectures on the Varieties of Religious Experience<\/em>, which is preserved in Harvard University\u2019s Houghton Library. \u00a0It was for a little project that I\u2019m working\u00a0on in stolen moments. \u00a0Mission accomplished.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
We had been visiting family in Richmond, Virginia.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
I found some amusement, on Friday, in flying from the one-time capital of the Confederacy \u2014 our drive to Richmond\u2019s airport took us, for a while, along the Jefferson Davis Highway \u2014 to what is perhaps the most New England Yankee of all American cities: \u00a0Boston, Massachusetts.<\/p>\n
