My main regret about that column is that I wrote it too late. \u00a0Or, rather, that I published it too late. \u00a0I wrote a draft\u00a0soon after the book\u00a0appeared and then realized, when I heard that Senator Bennett was in serious condition and went looking for it to use in a blog entry regarding him,\u00a0that I had somehow failed to submit it for publication. \u00a0(I suspect that my lapse had to do with my sometimes ridiculous travel schedule, which occasionally has me sending articles in to the Deseret News<\/em> in advance when I know that I\u2019ll lack\u00a0internet access. \u00a0Occasionally, this can lead to confusion.) \u00a0Anyway, I found the draft and published a slightly updated revision of it in the Deseret News<\/em>, and I take considerable satisfaction in the fact that, as I\u2019m told, members of his family read it to him in the hospital shortly before his passing.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
I meant it as a tribute and as a token of sincere respect and even (if I dare say so) of affection, and I was frankly rather upset that I might have missed the opportunity of conveying\u00a0that message to him.<\/p>\n
