The Laie Hawaii Temple was dedicated in 1919. \u00a0\u00a0(LDS Media Library)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Following that,\u00a0we drove around the BYU-Hawaii campus and over to take a look at the Laie Hawaii Temple, which, unfortunately, is closed for two weeks of summer maintenance.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The cynics and bigots may sneer, but the good humor, showmanship, beauty, cultural interest, and sheer quality at the Polynesian Cultural Center make the fact that tourists love it\u00a0no surprise to me at all. \u00a0We\u2019ve been here several\u00a0times over many years, and I\u2019ve always enjoyed it. \u00a0There were large crowds today, of varied nationalities and ethnicities, most of them almost certainly non-LDS, and they were plainly enjoying themselves. \u00a0Moreover, I\u2019m delighted that the PCC and BYU-Hawaii both showcase and (like the Temple) bless the lives of\u00a0Mormons who\u00a0don\u2019t look like me.<\/p>\n
