As more than a few of its critics will assure you, my adopted state of Utah \u2014 or, as some of them know it, Mor(m)onistan<\/em> or Utard<\/em> \u2014 is the armpit of the United States of America, unconstitutionally dominated and oppressed by the \u201cUtaliban.\u201d \u00a0Here\u2019s yet another example of the horrors of this repressive American theocracy:<\/p>\n

\u201cUtah is poised to be a shining example of lifting children out of poverty\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The Interpreter Foundation very much needs your support if it is to continue its work \u2014 let alone, as we hope, to expand that work. \u00a0But I freely confess that things like this touching five-minute video sometimes make me wonder how I can justify asking for donations to Interpreter, to say nothing of justifying money spent on movies, restaurants, concerts, plays, skiing, speedboats, or a thousand other pleasant aspects of life:<\/p>\n

Please, at this holiday season (the end of the American tax year), give to worthy causes. \u00a0(The Church and its humanitarian work is obviously at the top of my list, and you may know two of my other favorites: The Liahona Children\u2019s Foundation<\/a> and Operation Underground Railroad<\/a>. \u00a0But, if you can, spare a bit too for Interpreter<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Owing to an as yet puzzling technological glitch, the weekly article in Interpreter: A Journal of Mormon Scripture<\/em> almost didn\u2019t go up yesterday. \u00a0When the problem was noticed, though, the article was published manually \u2014 and just in time (with 23 minutes to spare!) to maintain our record of regular Friday publications. \u00a0(We realize that it\u2019s virtually inevitable that, someday, we\u2019ll miss a Friday. \u00a0And that, when that happens, our critics will crow triumphantly about the impending death of the Interpreter Foundation. \u00a0In the meantime, though, it\u2019s fun to keep the unbroken string going: \u00a0The Foundation was established slightly more than 279 weeks ago. \u00a0Since then, it has published at least one article \u2014 and sometimes two or even three articles \u2014 every Friday for 278 consecutive weeks. \u00a0You can help to support our work.<\/a>)<\/p>\n
