Well, FreedomFest 2018 is complete. \u00a0(I\u2019ll make my final report on Monday, most likely.) \u00a0And I\u2019ve enjoyed it immensely. \u00a0I hope that a few of you will have the chance, someday, to attend one of these.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
That said, I have to say that, for me, the fascinating economic and political issues discussed here don\u2019t, as it were, reach all the way down. \u00a0That is to say that, again for me, economics and politics don\u2019t satisfy. \u00a0The generation of wealth and even the defense of liberty don\u2019t touch on the eternal issues. \u00a0And if I thought that this life were all that we have, they would not be enough to compensate for the brevity of it all and the ultimate pointlessness of existence. \u00a0More than a few here are devotees of Ayn Rand and her atheistic \u201cObjectivism.\u201d \u00a0I understand the appeal of her writing, to a degree. \u00a0I myself went through an intense Ayn Rand phase between the ages of about fifteen and seventeen. \u00a0And there are aspects of her thinking that I still appreciate. \u00a0In the end, though, I find Objectivism an utterly depressing and bleak worldview.<\/p>\n
