Brown (who later went on to serve in the Twelve and in the First Presidency) presided over the Lethbridge Alberta Stake, headquartered not terribly far north northeast of Cardston, from 1921 until 1927.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Prophecy and history predict and record a great and universal apostasy which was to be followed by a restoration as predicted by John in Revelation. The fact of the great apostasy is attested by both sacred and secular writ, and history bears witness that it became universal. We proclaim this fact of history not as an attack on any church. We do not assume any position of \u201cholier than thou\u201d or \u201cwiser than thou,\u201d but we announce this historic fact of the apostasy as a vindication of the claim that there has been in fact a restoration of the gospel.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

While I\u2019m on this note: \u00a0I was delighted when I began to see previews for Unbroken: Path to Redemption<\/em><\/a>. \u00a0I haven\u2019t seen it yet, and I hope, though I have worries, that it will be well enough done to be worthy of the story it\u2019s trying to tell.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019m among those who believe that Laura Hillenbrand\u2019s book\u00a0Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption<\/em> tells one of the greatest, most remarkable, most inspiring true stories that I\u2019ve ever read.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So I was pleased when the 2014 film Unbroken<\/em> was announced. \u00a0But I worried. \u00a0I worried because it would be a Hollywood film, and because Hollywood doesn\u2019t always do religion well. \u00a0And, sure enough, the film lived more or less down to my expectations, pretty much omitting Louis Zamperini\u2019s remarkable, life-saving spiritual redemption, with which the book concludes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So, from what I understand,\u00a0Unbroken: Path to Redemption\u00a0<\/em>essentially begins where the 2014 Hollywood film leaves off.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Louis Zamperini\u2019s is an amazing story even without its final \u201creligious\u201d chapter. \u00a0But with that last part, it becomes a miraculous one.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n
