\u201cThrough Personal Testament, \u2018Why Religion?\u2019 Explores Belief In The 21st Century\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
This seems a remarkable book. \u00a0It certainly comes from a remarkable scholar whose life has given \u2014 imposed upon? \u2014 her experiences that she might easily not have destroyed. \u00a0I intend to read it. \u00a0I can\u2019t help but regret the rigid and judgmental Christian \u201cfriends\u201d who, very like the \u201cfriends\u201d of biblical Job \u2014 offered her \u201cexplanations\u201d that further wounded her rather than helping to salve her already grievous injuries. \u00a0And I can\u2019t help but think that the teachings of the Restoration might have been of assistance to her. \u00a0(I do, in fact, have a Latter-day Saint friend, like her a trained New Testament scholar with a focus on things Coptic, who, shortly after the deaths of her son and her husband, shared with her the concept of eternal families. \u00a0She listened very carefully, though what impact, if any, his teaching had upon her I cannot say. \u00a0Perhaps, if what is said in this review is true, she wasn\u2019t in a very receptive state at the time.)<\/p>\n
