Suicide furnishes an issue that more than a few critics of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints<\/a> have sought mightily to weaponize against the Church. \u00a0But it may not be the effective tool that they plainly hope it to be:<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cUtah researcher: theory of religious influences in Utah LGBT suicides may be overblown\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Suicide is a terrible, terrible thing, and a tragedy. \u00a0It would be a much better world if people didn\u2019t occasionally attempt to exploit it for their own religio-political agendas.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Incidentally, I\u2019m still meditating on what it would mean for a \u201cstance\u201d to be simultaneously \u201crigid\u201d and \u201coften equivocal.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n ***<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n I\u2019m really pleased that she chose to speak out on this subject:<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cRep. Tulsi Gabbard rightly blasts \u2018religious bigotry\u2019 of fellow Democrats\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n ***<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Every time I think about the fact that this great rhythm and blues singer is a member of the Church, I smile:<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cGladys Knight to Sing National Anthem at 2019 Super Bowl\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n And, while I\u2019m thinking about her, I think I\u2019ll share her 1973 hit\u00a0\u201cMidnight Train to Georgia\u201d<\/a>:<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n
