Some of you may have received a greater or lesser number of \u201cnotifications\u201d from the Interpreter Foundation over the past day or two, including a few announcing the launch of new ventures including the term Mormon<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I myself received a flood of them yesterday afternoon. \u00a0Nearly thirty, in the space of ten minutes. \u00a0As I examined them in puzzlement, I noticed that they all contained announcements dating to 2012. \u00a0What happened is that some technical work was being done on our website, and that whatever was done somehow triggered the resending of a number of old email messages. \u00a0(It has been reliably suggested to me that this torrent of old emails resulted from\u00a0some sort of distortion in the temporal vortex, perhaps a rent in the matrix of space and time. \u00a0In that case, we\u2019ll just need to fix something in our TARDIS \u2014 reverse the polarity or something like that \u2014 and that should take care of the problem.)<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fear not. \u00a0We haven\u2019t launched a campaign of public disobedience to President Russell M. Nelson on the subject of the term Mormon<\/em>. \u00a0And, if you\u2019re one of those affected by this little glitch, we don\u2019t intend to bombard you with emails every twenty seconds for the rest of your life.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Of course, the truth may be that Interpreter is simply trying to go \u201cretro.\u201d \u00a0Back to 2012? \u00a0That\u2019s nothing. \u00a0Just a small experiment, a dry run. \u00a0How about full-bore nineteenth-century? \u00a0Perhaps we\u2019ll end up renaming the organization something like\u00a0\u201cZion\u2019s Cooperative Interpreter Foundation,\u201d or \u201cThe Deseret Polysophical Interpreter Marching Foundation and Chowder Society.\u201d \u00a0And then, instead of email notifications, you\u2019ll be receiving telegrams.<\/p>\n
