Richard A Lovett sifts through the data.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Continuing on the theme of old things reemerging anew, here\u2019s a delightful piece about the one-party marvel that is today\u2019s California:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/health\/archive\/2019\/03\/typhus-tuberculosis-medieval-diseases-spreading-homeless\/584380\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cMedieval Diseases Are Infecting California\u2019s Homeless: Typhus, tuberculosis, and other illnesses are spreading quickly through camps and shelters.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the state\u2019s newly installed Democratic governor, Gavin Newsome, says, \u201cTyphus. A medieval disease. In California. In 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(Newsome assumed leadership of the state from Edmund Gerald \u201cJerry\u201d Brown Jr., who served as California\u2019s 34th governor between 1975 and 1983 and as California\u2019s 39th governor between 2011 and 2019, following in the footsteps of his father,\u00a0Edmund Gerald \u201cPat\u201d Brown Sr., who served as California\u2019s 32nd governor \u00a0between 1959 and 1967, when Sr. was defeated in his bid for a third term by a non-politician named Ronald Reagan.)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But let\u2019s change pace a bit, via an interesting interview with the French epistemologist and philosopher of science\u00a0Mathias Girel:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/news.cnrs.fr\/articles\/is-science-in-crisis\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cIs Science in Crisis?\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just a quick note on one of the points Girel raises when he speaks of \u201cconflicts of interest in scientific expertise, with recent studies showing occasionally blatant financing bias.
