John 12:31<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This passage has always struck me as very interesting on a human level.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For instance, the surprised delight of the Seventy at the power that they\u2019ve been granted seems very believable to me. \u00a0Jesus actually has to caution them that the vesting of that power in them isn\u2019t really the most important thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More striking to me, though, is the seemingly out-of-the-blue remark in Luke 10:18. \u00a0It\u2019s as if the veil were suddenly and briefly parted, so that Jesus (who was, I think, to some extent affected by the same veil that affects us) caught a glimpse of what followed\u00a0the pre-mortal council and the subsequent \u201cwar\u201d \u00a0in heaven. \u00a0I can\u2019t prove it, but that\u2019s how it\u2019s always seemed to me.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21528\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21528\" style=\"width: 597px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2015\/06\/800px-Ct-fororomano1.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-21528\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/186\/2015\/06\/800px-Ct-fororomano1.jpg\" alt=\"The Roman Forum\" width=\"597\" height=\"447\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21528\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A scene within the ruins of the Forum Romanum in Rome. 13:16-17; John 3:35; 7:29; 10:14-15; 13:3; 17:2, 15<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, the Lord doesn\u2019t seem inclined to reveal himself principally to the faculty club at Harvard or through the <em>Times Literary Supplement<\/em>. \u00a0Instead, he calls people who are ignored or even disdained by the self-anointed cultural elite. \u00a0Not just anciently, but today.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I sense a pattern.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 Luke 10:1-12 Compare Matthew 9:37-38;
