Although we\u2019ve removed the commercial breaks from our archived recordings of the Interpreter Radio Show, I\u2019m happy to give credit where credit is due:<\/p>\n

For the past several weeks, our friends at Cruise Lady<\/a> have stepped up to sponsor our weekly broadcasts. \u00a0K-Talk Radio (AM 1640) had decided to begin charging a nominal fee for our two-hour program (and all other such programs on its schedule), and Cruise Lady came to our assistance. \u00a0We\u2019re grateful and, quite candidly, we hope that their kindness and generosity will be rewarded by our listeners. \u00a0I\u2019ve been involved with the company for roughly a decade, perhaps a bit more, accompanying their tours to Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and several other destinations, and I think highly of them and their work. \u00a0I recommend them without hesitation.<\/p>\n

Going through some old notes, I came across something that I wrote down during a 2015 FairMormon conference presentation by Laura Hales. \u00a0She shared\u00a0a quotation from Emma Smith that I don\u2019t think I had heard before.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 1842 or thereabouts, Emma was very ill for a time, and unable to take care of herself. \u00a0So her friend Elizabeth Durfee tended to her. \u00a0And, one day, Zina Huntington was there and overheard this exchange:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Durfee: \u00a0\u201cEmma, is Joseph really a prophet?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Emma Smith: \u00a0\u201cYes. \u00a0But I wish to God I did not know it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I like that comment. \u00a0It seems very human and honest. \u00a0And, in its own peculiar way, I find it very faith-promoting.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I can well imagine such a response. \u00a0Couldn\u2019t somebody else have borne this burden?<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I can even imagine that Joseph himself sometimes felt the same way: \u00a0\u201cAll I wanted was to know which church to join. \u00a0You<\/em> know. \u00a0Methodist, maybe? \u00a0Or Presbyterian?\u201d<\/p>\n
