Next year, for the first time in a very long while, I\u2019m not scheduled to accompany a tour to Israel or anywhere else in the Middle East. \u00a0I\u2019ll do it again the following year, 2021, presumably (and presuming that nothing serious intervenes), but my wife and I decided that we needed a break, a change of pace.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So . . .<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2020, we\u2019re currently scheduled to accompany two tours. \u00a0Neither one of them goes to the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first of the two tours will run for thirteen days in June, with an optional add-on of four days. \u00a0It is focused on the famous Passion Play in the Bavarian village of Oberammergau \u2014 which runs every ten years, and which I\u2019ve seen during three previous seasons \u2014 and on certain extremely dramatic events surrounding the Lutheran Reformation:<\/p>\n

I\u2019m really excited about this one. \u00a0It was my idea, I\u2019ve had considerable input on its design, and there are a lot of things that I want to say about these subjects. \u00a0Another reason that I\u2019m excited is that I have a deep affection for Austria, Bavaria, and Switzerland (where I served my mission and to which I have returned many times).<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s possible that the tour is sold out. \u00a0I don\u2019t know. \u00a0But, even if so, Cruise Lady is running three other tours to Oberammergau, with my friends Brad Wilcox and Jack Welch and with Roger Minert, a superb authority on German cultural history with whom I was once privileged to spend a few hours in Weimar; I learned a great deal that evening.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll also be accompanying a cruise on the Baltic Sea from 4 July through 13 July. \u00a0We\u2019ll visit the wonderful Pergamon Museum in Berlin, which features some of the greatest of ancient art. \u00a0We\u2019ll go to the beautiful city of Talinn, Estonia, as well as to Helsinki, Finland, and St. Petersburg, Russia, and Stockholm, Sweden, where I, a person very conscious of his Norwegian and Danish descent, will once more thoroughly enjoy the story of the great Swedish warship Vasa<\/em>.<\/p>\n
