Witnesses<\/em> film project<\/a>, which is currently underway.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Where does that project stand at the moment? \u00a0We\u2019ve already done about ten interviews for its documentary component. \u00a0We\u2019ve revised and tightened up the script. \u00a0(These things always evolve.) \u00a0It\u2019s been sent out to several historians for what I hope will be a ruthless critique. \u00a0Some of our crew have been scouting potential locations for shooting in the eastern United States and Canada, as well as in Utah. \u00a0We\u2019re looking toward casting for the dramatic portions of the effort. \u00a0And, I\u2019m pleased to say, we\u2019ve raised about seventy-five percent of our overall production budget of somewhat more than one million dollars, not counting certain substantial outstanding pledges that I hope to see arrive soon.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
We will probably need to do a bit more fundraising thereafter in order to cover some ancillary efforts that were not part of the original budget plan \u2014 e.g., the creation of an as yet unspecified number of \u201csnippets,\u201d averaging (we project) about 3.5 minutes in length. \u00a0Let me explain what those \u201csnippets\u201d are: \u00a0They will draw on the dramatic footage and the interviews that we do for the basic film project. \u00a0In some cases, they will be scenes, outtakes, from the movie. \u00a0In others, perhaps the majority, they will focus on interview material that, in the end, didn\u2019t fit the narrative arc of the film, which cannot be infinitely long or overly complex, but that we deem important and worthwhile.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the old days of moviemaking, material that didn\u2019t survive in the final theatrical cut simply ended up on the cutting room floor. \u00a0Our interviews have typically gone one or two hours or more, but we\u2019ll be able to include only a few minutes from them in our documentary. \u00a0We anticipate, however, using a reasonably high percentage of what we film when the \u201csnippets\u201d are created.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Our intention, among other things, is to address head-on every serious criticism that has been leveled against the credibility of the Book of Mormon Witnesses. \u00a0I don\u2019t want to omit or ignore any such criticism, if I can avoid it.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
So how can you help? \u00a0Monetary donations are very welcome, of course.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
But I would also genuinely appreciate it if people were to send in whatever substantive criticisms they\u2019ve heard directed against the reliability of the Witnesses. \u00a0I\u2019ve already made a list on my own, but it\u2019s very possible, even likely, that I\u2019ve left something out. \u00a0And I don\u2019t want to leave anything out.<\/p>\n
