As a serious social and political conservative who is inclined to libertarianism on economic issues, I\u2019m anything but a fan of Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). \u00a0I\u2019ve paid scarcely any attention to Rep.\u00a0Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), but, given her political positions, it\u2019s safe to say that I would never vote for her, either.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Indeed, I\u2019ve found myself in the, for me, exceedingly odd and unaccustomed position over the past couple of weeks of feeling sorry for poor Nancy Pelosi, wishing her well for her battles with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and other leftist members of \u201cthe Squad,\u201d as they\u2019ve apparently taken to calling themselves.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

However . . . \u00a0President Donald Trump\u2019s three-part 14 July 2019 tweet was over the top and inexcusable:<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

So interesting to see \u201cProgressive\u201d Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2026.and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don\u2019t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how\u2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2026.it is done. These places need your help badly, you can\u2019t leave fast enough. I\u2019m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Was it racist? \u00a0Not overtly, but possibly. \u00a0As everybody \u2014 and perhaps even Mr. Trump \u2014 now realizes, Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, and Pressly were born in the United States. \u00a0So it\u2019s nonsensical for him to suggest that they \u201cgo back\u201d to the \u201cplaces from which they came.\u201d \u00a0He\u2019s clearly insinuating that they\u2019re foreign, \u201cother.\u201d And, since it\u2019s extremely unlikely that he would ever tweet such a thing about, say, his Anglo-American supporter Jerry Falwell Jr. or even\u00a0the Italian-American Nancy Pelosi, I think there are grounds for seeing a racial angle for what he wrote.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

And was it stupid? \u00a0Beyond question. \u00a0On multiple levels. \u00a0Here\u2019s one of them: \u00a0The increasingly public and nasty feud between Speaker Pelosi and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez could only benefit Mr. Trump and the Republicans. \u00a0(See here<\/a>, for example.) \u00a0So, as he often does, Mr. Trump found a way to step all over the headlines about their squabbling and, at least in this case, to temporarily bring the two together in common opposition to him<\/em>. \u00a0(See here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n
