Some academics dream of lecturing at Oxford or Harvard. (I\u2019ve actually done both, on a very small scale and in a very insignificant way.) But I\u2019m about to realize my own personal academic dream yet AGAIN. I\u2019ll be speaking on the Vegas Strip! I\u2019ve seen the real Paris, but it doesn\u2019t hold a candle to the fake one.

The presentation that I was very recently asked to give at FreedomFest 2019<\/a> down in Las Vegas tomorrow afternoon (\u201cBuilding Zion: Mormon Pioneers and Religion in the American West\u201d) is beginning to take shape. \u00a0If anybody shows up to my session, I now think that they\u2019ll find it interesting. \u00a0Even any Latter-day Saints who might happen to wander by the room will, I believe, likely learn at least a few things from it that they didn\u2019t already know. \u00a0It\u2019s a rich, varied, and often rather dramatic topic:<\/p>\n

My friend Mark Skousen<\/a>, the grand impresario and producer of FreedomFest, will be introducing me.<\/p>\n

Normally, I like to be there for all of FreedomFest<\/a> when I speak at it. \u00a0There are many interesting sessions and events, and a really great display area, including quite a few fun books for sale. \u00a0This time, though, alas, my time there can only be very short. \u00a0I fly down from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas on Wednesday morning, deliver my remarks and wander around just a bit, and then fly back from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City in the evening.<\/p>\n
