Last night, my wife and I enjoyed dinner with friends and then went with them to a performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein\u2019s Cinderella<\/em> at the Hale Centre Theatre in Sandy.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

I have to say that no particular song in the musical struck me as very memorable. \u00a0(Since it\u2019s a Rodgers and Hammerstein creation, I was surprised.) \u00a0That said, the production was thoroughly enjoyable. \u00a0It was, for one thing, visually stunning. \u00a0The on-stage dress changes for the fairy godmother and, even more so, for Cinderella herself (who had two of them), were spectacular. \u00a0How on earth did they do<\/em> it? \u00a0Shae Robins was absolutely perfect in the title role. \u00a0(She alternates in the part with Amy Keeler, who performs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and whom, obviously, we didn\u2019t see.) \u00a0The audience was unusually well-stocked with little girls, and I expect that those little girls really, really liked it. \u00a0If you want romance, this play delivers it in large quantities. \u00a0(I myself am an incurable romantic.)<\/p>\n

I need to continue my reporting from the Utah Shakespeare Festival.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve said that, in our view, Hamlet<\/em> was the very satisfying high point of the season while Macbeth<\/em> was the disappointment. \u00a0I\u2019ve already briefly written about the one-man depression- and suicide-themed comedy Every Brilliant Thing<\/em>, which I really liked. \u00a0(See here<\/a>.) \u00a0I don\u2019t believe that I\u2019ve written about The Book of Will<\/em>, yet. \u00a0It\u2019s a modern script about the production of the famous First Folio of Shakespeare\u2019s plays, an effort that began three years after his death in 1616 and without which most of them might have been lost. \u00a0We enjoyed it. \u00a0It\u2019s funny and touching and even informative.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

We also saw Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat<\/em>. \u00a0Again. \u00a0I thought it a good production, but I\u2019ve seen better. \u00a0This one made me realize even more how very good the performance was that we saw at\u00a0Rosecrest Pavilion in Herriman\u2019s Butterfield Park. \u00a0That Joseph<\/em> was produced under the auspices of the Herriman Arts Council, and it was a fine example of community theater at its best. \u00a0The daughter of a couple of friends of ours was the choreographer of the production, and she plainly did her job very well. \u00a0The dancing was energetic, well-executed, and witty.<\/p>\n

On Saturday evening, we saw a performance of Twelfth Night<\/em>\u00a0there in Cedar City. \u00a0It was enjoyable, but, once again, I\u2019ve seen better \u2014 including at the Utah Shakespeare Festival.<\/p>\n
