March 12 Situation Update<\/span><\/h2>\n

Consistent with the CES guidelines issued<\/a><\/span> last night, BYU has made the following decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Classes:<\/b><\/span>
\nClasses on March 13, 16 and 17 are cancelled. All courses at BYU, including its Salt Lake Center, will resume March 18 through remote instruction. Some courses cannot reasonably meet remotely, such as lab courses or performance-based courses. College deans will communicate with departments about any specific exceptions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Travel home:<\/b><\/span>
\nBYU encourages students to consider leaving campus and returning home to finish Winter semester through remote coursework. We recognize individual circumstances may not allow this. Services and on-campus housing will continue to be available for those who choose to remain.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Commencement and Convocations:<\/b><\/span>
\nGathering for these events is cancelled. Individual colleges will determine if convocations will be streamed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Devotionals and Forums:<\/b><\/span>
\nGathering for Devotionals and Forums for winter semester is cancelled. A broadcast will be available through BYUtv each Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. Further information about each broadcast will be forthcoming. The March 24 Forum with Dambisa Moyo is postponed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Study Abroad and Performing Tours<\/b><\/span>
\nAll study abroad programs and performing tours scheduled for spring term have been cancelled.<\/span><\/p>\n

NCAA Athletic Events:<\/b><\/span>
\nEffective immediately, all athletic events on BYU\u2019s campus will be suspended.<\/span><\/p>\n

Public events on campus:<\/b><\/span>
\nBeginning March 16, all gatherings for performances, concerts, public lectures and conferences will be canceled until further notice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Working from home<\/b><\/span>
\nDo not report to work in person if you feel sick. Until further notice, supervising units have the discretion on decisions about working from home for student, part-time, and full-time employees.<\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Conference<\/b><\/span>
\nThe BYU Women\u2019s Conference will not be held on the BYU campus April 30 and May 1, 2020. Organizers are looking into streaming options and will share more information about those options as it becomes available.<\/span><\/p>\n

Employee travel<\/b><\/span>
\nBYU has suspended all domestic and international travel by employees until further notice.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

You should take primary responsibility for protecting yourself and others against the coronavirus by doing the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Wash your hands frequently.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Cover your mouth when coughing and sneezing.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Maintain a 14-day supply of food and necessities, if possible, so that you have food on hand in case you become sick. The water supply is not expected to be disrupted.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Avoid direct contact with those who are sick.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
