\u201cThe Lost Prologue:\u00a0Reading Moses Chapter One as an Ancient Text\u201d<\/a><\/span><\/p>\nAbstract: The character and complexion of the Prophet Joseph\u00a0Smith\u2019s translation of the Bible (JST) is often a\u00a0puzzle to students and scholars. One text in particular, the first chapter of the Book of Moses, claims that its very words would be lost and later restored to the believing. As this bold claim has not yet been verified by the discovery of an ancient copy of this text, clues to the antiquity of this document will need to be discovered within the text itself. This study investigates Moses 1 with the tools of biblical and literary criticism to discover if the text has the characteristics and content of an ancient religious document.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Incidentally, today marks the four hundreth (400th) consecutive Friday on which Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship<\/em> has published at least one new article. \u00a0That\u2019s not a bad record, especially in view of the fact that the Interpreter Foundation was launched, and its journal conceived, just 401.5 weeks ago. \u00a0This success could not have happened without the contributions given by very many people, contributions of both money and effort.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
I cannot hope to adequately thank all of those who stepped forward from the very beginning, such as Bryce Haymond and my dear late friend Bill Hamblin. \u00a0David Bokovoy generously contributed our very first article. \u00a0Jeffrey Mark Bradshaw eventually stepped in and took over weekly management of Journal<\/em> publication. \u00a0And then, when he and his wife left for the first of their two lengthy assignments to the Democratic Republic of the Congo Kinshasa Mission, Allen Wyatt accepted that responsibility, in which he continues to do remarkable work still today. \u00a0And, of course, I\u2019m grateful to all of our article authors, who receive no compensation for their labor, and to source checkers and audio readers and all of the others who make the thing work. \u00a0And, beyond the Journal<\/em>, I\u2019m thankful to the folks who do our radio programs and contribute to our blog and track our finances and help me stay on top of writing thank-you notes and take notes at our board meetings and ensure that the money that has been entrusted to our care is prudently managed and help to organize our conferences and to film them and who provide us with technical support and . . . \u00a0well, I\u2019m sure that I\u2019m forgetting vital people and essential contributions.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
