Trump will likely lose the presidency in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Does this please me?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yes. \u00a0I\u2019ve always thought that he is morally, temperamentally, and intellectually unfit for the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And no. \u00a0I\u2019m not at all happy about the prospect of a Biden presidency. \u00a0Although, in many ways, Republicans in Congress haven\u2019t exactly covered themselves with glory under the Trump administration, I won\u2019t be happy if the Democrats gain control of the Senate. \u00a0Moreover, I was really, really hoping for many more conservative judicial appointments and for at least one more conservative justice on the Supreme Court. \u00a0The remarkable Ruth Bader Ginsburg will likely hold on through the end of Mr. Trump\u2019s term; it\u2019s extremely unlikely that she would have been able to retain her seat on the court through a <em>second<\/em> term.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the end, if the White House changes hands come next January, as I now think likely, it will be because Mr. Trump loses, not because Mr. Biden wins. \u00a0Joe Biden is virtually invisible right now, and that\u2019s probably working in his favor, as his very considerable flaws (personal, political, and health-related) are not being scrutinized. \u00a0He will be elected, if he is elected, as the generic Democrat or, even more accurately, as the non-Trump or the anti-Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fierce denunciations from the retired four-star Marine Corps generals <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2020\/06\/03\/trump-military-george-floyd-protests\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">John Allen<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2020\/06\/james-mattis-denounces-trump-protests-militarization\/612640\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">James Mattis<\/a> (the latter of whom served as Secretary of Defense in Mr. Trump\u2019s cabinet from 2017 until his resignation in 2019) may well, in my judgment, represent the real beginning of the end for the Trump administration, though Mr. Trump\u2019s erratic non-leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was already making his personal defects, including his insecurity, pettiness, and vanity, painfully and inescapably visible even to many of those who have somehow managed to deny them for three or four years.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Trump is <em>not<\/em> a <em>conservative<\/em>. \u00a0He never <em>has<\/em> been. \u00a0He is a nationalist and a wannabe autocrat, among many other negative things:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dhni0fYpnXI\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201c<span id=\"eow-title\" class=\"watch-title\" dir=\"ltr\" title=\"Trump falsely claims he has 'total' authority\">Trump falsely claims he has \u2018total\u2019 authority\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/huffpost\/fox-news-bret-baier-conservative-hypocrisy-093533374.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cFox Host: Conservative Heads Would\u2019ve Exploded If Obama Claimed Trump\u2019s Total Authority\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/04\/trump-federalism-flip-flop-shows-he-has-no-ideological-framework\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cFederalism Flip-Flop Shows Trump Has No Ideological Framework:\u00a0There is no Trumpism. The Competence Test is Next:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Christian political engagement is about more than an issue checklist.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.merriam-webster.com\/news-trend-watch\/letat-cest-moi-20200130\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cTrending: <span class=\"tw-words\"><em>\u2018l\u2019\u00e9tat, c\u2019est moi\u2019<\/em>:\u00a0<\/span>Lookups spiked <span class=\"tw-num-gradient\">2,100%<\/span> on January 30, 2020\u2033<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/03\/30\/politics\/donald-trump-coronavirus-daily-briefing-white-house\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cThe deep leadership flaw revealed by Trump touting his coronavirus press conference ratings\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/04\/06\/opinion\/trump-coronavirus-empathy.html?action=click&amp;module=Opinion&amp;pgtype=Homepage\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201c<span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Has Anyone Found Trump\u2019s Soul? Anyone? \u00a0<\/span>He\u2019s not rising to the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic. Jeff Flake won\u2019t vote for Trump, says GOP better off if he loses reelection\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lincolnproject.us\/news\/the-urgency-of-defeating-trump-falls-to-all-of-us\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cThe Lincoln Project: We Are Republicans, and We Want Trump Defeated:\u00a0The president and his enablers have replaced conservatism with an empty faith led by a bogus prophet.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I understand their position. \u00a0But I would be infinitely happier if there were a good and realistic alternative. \u00a0Unfortunately, though, for a disenfranchised conservative such as I, there isn\u2019t. \u00a0Joe Biden is realistic, after a fashion, but not a good choice. \u00a0Any good choice is an unrealistic one.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And so, on the morning of Wednesday, 4 November 2020, I expect to wake up very happy that Mr. Donald J. Trump has lost the election, and deeply depressed that Joe Biden and the Democrats have won it.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, here\u2019s something else to worry about: \u00a0What if, as I currently expect, Mr. Donald J. Trump does fail to gain re-election?<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/policy-and-politics\/2020\/6\/3\/21257133\/trump-2020-election-meltdown-lawrence-douglas\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cWill he go? \u00a0A law professor fears a meltdown this November.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t laugh. \u00a0I hope it won\u2019t happen, but I wouldn\u2019t be altogether surprised.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, Rep. Steve King\u2019s defeat in the Iowa Republican primaries on Tuesday was resoundingly good news:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/06\/house-cleaning\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cHouse Cleaning\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/06\/coalition-politics-and-the-rejection-of-steve-king\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cCoalition Politics and the Rejection of Steve King:\u00a0Dumping him is an act of both political and moral hygiene.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Finally, fearing that I haven\u2019t yet offended enough people, I offer the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2020\/06\/the-sole-justification-offered-for-the-riots-is-a-fiction\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cThe Sole Justification Offered for the Riots Is a Fiction:\u00a0Rioters and their enablers claim that the present disorder is justified by an epidemic of police shootings of unarmed black men. But no such epidemic exists.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The death of George Floyd does seem to have been quite unjustified and very arguably murder. \u00a0I do not want anybody to accuse me of denying that, and I\u2019m perfectly fine with indignant protests responding to the case. \u00a0Moreover, I trust that I won\u2019t be accused of racism, or said to be downplaying black anguish because I\u2019m white or because I\u2019m a Latter-day Saint. \u00a0If the article above is incorrect, I encourage people to respond with numbers and facts that prove it so.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 \u00a0 For the first time, I\u2019m leaning strongly to the view that Mr. Donald J.
