The southern end of Kinneret or Lake Tiberias (aka \u201cthe sea of Galilee\u201d)

Owing to my curious biography, I\u2019ve visited the so-called \u201csea of Galilee\u201d \u2014 also and perhaps more appropriately known as the Sea of Kinneret or Lake\u00a0Gennesaret or Lake Tiberias \u2014 many times more than I\u2019ve visited Bear Lake. \u00a0But being here again has reinforced my sense that the two are rather similar in appearance.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kinneret is roughly thirteen (13) miles in length and, at its widest, about 8.1 miles across, for a surface area of approximately 64 square miles. \u00a0Bear Lake, which straddles the Utah-Idaho border, is somewhat larger \u2014 fairly uniformly about 7.1 miles across, but 18.3 miles in length and with a surface area of 109 square miles.<\/span><\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
What really strikes me, and what has struck me again this time, is the setting of the two lakes, which are both closely surrounded by fairly low and typically rather dry hills. \u00a0(On the eastern side of Kinneret, these hills are the famous \u2014 or, in recent international politics, the infamous and controversial \u2014 Golan Heights, which appear as Gaulanitis<\/em> on many New Testament maps.) \u00a0Perhaps the two photographs that I\u2019ve included in this blog entry \u2014 each one taken of the southern end of its respective lake \u2014 will help at least a tiny bit to illustrate what I mean.<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
