Twenty-five years ago, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints<\/a> issued \u201cThe Family: A Proclamation to the World.\u201d\u00a0 Here are three reflections on that document:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn 25 years, \u2018The Family: A Proclamation to the World\u2019 has gone from UN to Vatican and beyond\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cAt 25, The Family proclamation looks prophetic in addressing a 2020 society: The carefully written document outlining the church\u2019s doctrines and principles on marriage and family life was the fifth such \u201cproclamation\u201d in the church\u2019s history\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

As for the second item above, I myself \u2014 in company with three friends \u2014 presented a copy of The Family: A Proclamation to the World<\/em> to Edward Idris Cardinal Cassidy, then (I was told) the third-ranking official in the Vatican hierarchy (after the Vatican secretary of state and the Pope himself) in his office about a block from St. Peter\u2019s Basilica.<\/p>\n
