he knows the way.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p11\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928021\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Enoch was a prophet; he taught what was good.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p12\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928022\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>People in his city did just what they should.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p13\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928023\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>When they were so righteous that there was no sin,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p14\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928024\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Heav\u2019nly Father took them up to live with him.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p20\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928030\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Noah was a prophet called to preach the word,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p21\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928031\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Tried to cry repentance, but nobody heard.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p22\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928032\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>They were busy sinning\u2014Noah preached in vain.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p23\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928034\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>They wished they had listened when they saw the rain.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p29\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928045\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Abraham the prophet prayed to have a son,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p30\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928047\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>So the Lord sent Isaac as the chosen one.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p31\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928049\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Isaac begat Jacob, known as Israel;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p32\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928051\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Jacob\u2019s sons were twelve tribes, so the Bible tells.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p38\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928060\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Moses was a prophet sent to Israel.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p39\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928061\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>He would lead them to the promised land to dwell.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p40\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928062\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>They were slow to follow, or so it appears.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p41\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928063\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>They were in the wilderness for forty years.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p47\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928069\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><span class=\"verse-number\">\u00a0<\/span>Samuel was a prophet chosen as a boy.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p48\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928070\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Hannah promised God her son would serve with joy.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p49\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928071\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>In the tabernacle, Samuel heard his name;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p50\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928072\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>He was called by God and answered, \u201cHere I am!\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p56\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928078\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Jonah was a prophet, tried to run away,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p57\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928079\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>But he later learned to listen and obey.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p58\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928080\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>When we really try, the Lord won\u2019t let us fail:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p59\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928081\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>That\u2019s what Jonah learned deep down inside the whale.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p65\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928087\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Daniel was a prophet. He refused to sin;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p66\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928088\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>So the king threw Daniel in the lion\u2019s den.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p67\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928089\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Angels calmed the lions, and the king soon saw<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p68\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928090\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Daniel\u2019s pow\u2019r was great, for he obeyed God\u2019s law.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p id=\"figure1_p74\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928096\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Now we have a world where people are confused.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p75\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928097\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>If you don\u2019t believe it, go and watch the news.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p76\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928098\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>We can get direction all along our way,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"figure1_p77\" class=\"line\" data-aid=\"127928099\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>If we heed the prophets\u2014follow what they say.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Throughout my adult life until just recently, it has overwhelmingly been left-leaning \u201cprogressives\u201d who have found political reasons to reject the leaders of the Church.\u00a0 Now, to my astonishment, some people ostensibly on the political <em>right<\/em> have been doing so.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The late Elder Neal A. Maxwell was fond of quoting William Law (1686-1761):\u00a0 \u201cIf you have not chosen the Kingdom of God first,\u201d said Rev. Law, \u201cit will in the end make no difference what you have chosen instead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/utah\/2021\/8\/10\/22618461\/lingering-wildfire-smoke-impacting-health-when-will-the-smoke-clear-salt-lake-city-air-quality\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cCoughing? Itchy eyes? Lingering wildfire smoke could be the cause: Utah continues to battle smoke-caused haze\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/utah\/2021\/8\/9\/22616705\/international-climate-report-is-raising-the-alarm-over-climate-change-emissions-utah-drought\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cBad news for the West in a new international climate change report: Utah, the West face more fires, less snow, and an uncertain water future\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/opinion\/2021\/8\/10\/22617520\/drought-climate-change-american-west-ipcc-report-innovation-needed-un\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cOf all places, the American West should take climate change seriously: The current megadrought has persisted much of the past 20 years. Utah should invest more in water management and innovation\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Being a free-market conservative doesn\u2019t entail rejecting science.\u00a0 Neither does being a believing Latter-day Saint.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">***<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And, finally, there\u2019s this, from the <em>Christopher Hitchens Memorial \u201cHow Religion Poisons Everything\u201d File<\/em>\u00a9:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a
