In the first portion of it, they discuss the Church\u2019s official proclamations. The second portion of the show is devoted to a scripture roundtable discussion of the upcoming Come Follow Me lesson #5 (Moses 7). The Interpreter Radio Show can be heard in the Valley of the Great Salt Lake each and every Sunday evening from 7 to 9 PM (MDT), on K-TALK, AM 1640.\u00a0 It can also be heard live on the Internet from effectively <em>anywhere<\/em> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ktalkmedia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" class=\" decorated-link\">ktalkmedia.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Interpreter Foundation commentators from the swift completion of their appointed roundtable discussions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">***<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some have seen the California public school system as being in the vanguard of efforts to remove anything savoring even remotely of religious influence on the education of children.\u00a0 But this hasn\u2019t actually been true.\u00a0 California school administrators <em>haven\u2019t<\/em>, in fact, taken a purely secular approach to the children in their custody.\u00a0 It\u2019s just a question of which theology is to be favored:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/a-win-for-parents-a-loss-for-aztec-worship-in-schools\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cA Win for Parents, a Loss for Aztec Worship in Schools\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I once played a prank involving, among several other things, a non-existent music CD that I had entitled <em>My Bleedin\u2019 Heart: An Anthology of Aztec Liturgical Chants<\/em>.\u00a0 I was, though, unfortunately ahead of my time.\u00a0 Maybe, if I had just waited until a bit later, I could have obtained a supporting grant from the California Department of Education.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">***<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In connection with this holiday, today, honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy, here are a few quotations from his remarkably eloquent speeches and writings:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cFaith is taking the first step even when you don\u2019t see the whole staircase.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cIn the End, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cAn individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cDarkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cLife\u2019s most persistent and urgent question is, \u2018What are you doing for others?'\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cThe time is always right to do what is right.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cThe ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cWe must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cLove is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cI have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cOur lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cIf a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn\u2019t fit to live.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cThe first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: \u2018If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?\u2019 But\u2026 the good Samaritan reversed the question: \u2018If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cA genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cThe quality, not the longevity, of one\u2019s life is what is important.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is no better way to think of Martin Luther King today than to listen to his own incomparable voice, which, if you choose, you can do here:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/weta\/washingtonweek\/blog-post\/5-martin-luther-king-jr%E2%80%99s-most-memorable-speeches\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201c5 of Martin Luther King Jr.\u2019s most memorable speeches\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">***<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And here, for whatever little the list may be worth, are some links between Latter-day Saints and Dr. King and his legacy:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ldsliving.com\/Martin-Luther-King-Jr-and-Mormons\/s\/74803\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cMartin Luther King, Jr. Had 2 Copies of the Book of Mormon + More Latter-day Saint Connections\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">***<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The famous \u201cI Have a Dream Speech\u201d is, to say the very least of it, a marvelous piece of rhetoric. \u00a0But I\u2019m also impressed by the uncanny prescience, at least from our subsequent perspective, of Dr. King\u2019s final speech, given on 3 April 1968, the night before his assassination in Memphis, Tennessee:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993300;\">\u201cWell, I don\u2019t know what will happen now. We\u2019ve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn\u2019t matter with me now, because I\u2019ve been to the mountaintop. \u00a0And I don\u2019t mind. \u00a0Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. \u00a0Longevity has its place. \u00a0But I\u2019m not concerned about that now. \u00a0I just want to do God\u2019s will. \u00a0And he\u2019s allowed me to go up to the mountain. \u00a0And I\u2019ve looked over, and I\u2019ve seen the Promised Land. \u00a0I may not get there with you. \u00a0But I want you to know tonight that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land. \u00a0So I\u2019m happy tonight. \u00a0I\u2019m not worried about anything. \u00a0I\u2019m not fearing any man. \u00a0\u2018Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.\u2019\u201d \u00a0(My transcription from a video excerpt of the speech.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m very, very old. \u00a0I was fully awake and alive in 1968. \u00a0Some of you were, as well. \u00a0Many of you were not. \u00a0In either case, perhaps you will profit from hearing Senator Robert F. Kennedy\u2019s announcement of Dr. King\u2019s assassination in Indianapolis, at what had been planned as a campaign rally:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GoKzCff8Zbs\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cRobert F Kennedy Announcing The Death Of Martin Luther King \u2013 A Great Speech\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sixty-three days later \u2014 less than five years after the assassination of his brother, President John F.
