Jill Stein, the Green Party nominee for president, is doubling down on her conspiracy theory lunacy by now calling for a new investigation into the terrorist attacks on 9/11. An investigation she says was stonewalled by the Bush administration.

“Led by the families of those who died on 9/11, the American people wanted — and deserved — a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the attacks,” Stein said in a statement.

“The Bush Administration initially said an inquiry was unnecessary, claiming that the perpetrators had been identified and their methods and motives were clear.”

She went on to claim that the 9/11 Commission Report was full of “omissions and distortions.”

“The 9/11 Commission was not given enough money, time, or access to relevant classified information,” Stein said. “The Stein/Baraka campaign believes a new inquiry is necessary.”

What Stein hopes to accomplish by opening up this inquiry is unclear, aside from simply once again pandering to the conspiracy theory crowd that makes up the Green Party.

In recent months Stein has claimed that WiFi could be dangerous for our children’s brains, that GMOs can alter human DNA and should be banned, and that while she thinks vaccines work, that people have many unanswered questions about their safety.

Stein and the Greens have tried to position themselves as the leftist alternative to the two-party system but have consistently pushed the left aside in favor of outright lunacy. Pandering to anti-science voters, rejecting socialism (and until recently fully supporting reformed capitalism), and now jumping into bed with the Alex Jones, and right-wing lunacy that leads the 9/11 truther brigade.
