Arguing over what an orc or a Klingon might or might not do. Logic without testing in the physical universe can lead to any fancy one would want. It is easy to prove leprechauns exist when you don\u2019t have to find and present them \u2013 I have one sitting here beside me now \u2013 anyone care to prove that I don\u2019t? He is just a real as any god.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f4549;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/disqus.com\/by\/momtarkle\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">momtarkle<\/a>:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\">We seem to agree on one thing: Things are. After that ,we disagree. You say that things are, because God. (An omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and necessarily Christian God.) I say that I know of no evidence of your, or any other, God, so I cannot accept the belief that there is one. If I do find out why things are, I\u2019ll let you know.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Christianity has plenty of empirical indications in its favor. See. e.g.,<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calvin.edu\/academic\/philosophy\/virtual_library\/articles\/plantinga_alvin\/two_dozen_or_so_theistic_arguments.pdf\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cTwo Dozen (or So) Theistic Arguments,\u201d<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> by the eminent Christian philosopher<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0CB4QFjAAahUKEwjR9Mm44dHHAhVJE5IKHWl1Cik&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FAlvin_Plantinga&amp;ei=CHfjVdHQMsmmyATp6qnIAg&amp;usg=AFQjCNH9kvW6XgkX4_ILiagfbhFXnZJY4Q&amp;sig2=7qZ1IM5Ib5zsjB_BpP_HNQ\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Alvin Plantinga<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">. This particular piece of mine presupposed that God exists and goes on to deal with an aspect of the problem of evil. I wasn\u2019t trying to prove that God exists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f4549;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Next thing you\u2019ll bring up Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, and the Easter bunny. It\u2019s a fun game (ha ha ha), but only shows how fundamentally silly and desperate many atheist arguments are.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f4549;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The fact remains that many very bright, sharp people, including thousands of<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/davearmstrong\/2010\/10\/books-by-dave-armstrong-science-and.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"> brilliant scientists<\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">and<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Category:Christian_philosophers\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">philosophers <\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">have believed in God. There is far, far more to theism than the silly atheist comparisons. We\u2019re not all gullible anti-scientific, non-rational idiots, believe it or not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f4549;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Not to mention that atheism, closely examined, involves far more leaps of faith and fantastic beliefs than Christianity ever has. See, e.g., a recent piece I did (that ruffled a ton of feathers and created a huge big stink: almost wholly because of<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/davearmstrong\/2015\/08\/clarifications-re-atheist-reductio-paper.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">misunderstanding the very nature of my argument and humor<\/a>): <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/blogs\/davearmstrong\/2015\/08\/atheism-remarkably-childlike-atomistic-faith.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Atheism: the Faith of \u201cAtomism.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f4549;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lastly, it is impossible to <em>absolutely<\/em>\u00a0prove that <strong><em>you\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>exist. Yet you casually assume that you <em>do<\/em>. You can\u2019t absolutely prove that Australia or Manitoba or Andorra exist: at least without having witnessed them yourself. You take their\u00a0existence as facts because others have testified to it. Yet this is precisely the same sort of data that the Bible provides us with in the case of Jesus. People saw Him, witnessed His miracles, and met Him after He came back from the dead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f4549;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Atheists foolishly think they overcome such evidence by simply dismissing the very possibility of miraculous occurrences beforehand, which is an arbitrary piece of logic, apart from empirical observation and testing, precisely like what you condemn above.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">God has given us plenty of ways to overcome them, as I noted in another post. We can second-guess God all we like and try to figure Him out, or we can start following His advice and have a much more happy, joyful life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We have to exercise faith and trust. We\u2019ll never figure everything out about God, anymore than we can figure everything out about His creation. Science still doesn\u2019t have the<em> foggiest idea<\/em> of how the universe began, how life began, how DNA began . . . They study and seek (and that\u2019s fun and informative), but they don\u2019t yet <em>know<\/em>. Why, then, do we think we can figure out a God Who is (as we believe) omniscient?
