Biblical Arguments"},"content":{"rendered":"<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><head><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><meta http-equiv=\"content-type\" content=\"text\/html; charset=utf-8\"><\/head><body><div style=\"text-align: center;\" data-offset-key=\"2kq-0-0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-43494\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/572\/2020\/01\/ChristCrucifiedGlory.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"401\"><\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"2kq-0-0\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"2kq-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2kq-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2kq-0-0\">Protestants have frequently been observed to argue that we Catholics are being \u201cmorbid\u201d and have misplaced priorities, by concentrating far too much on Jesus\u2019 sacrificial death on the cross for us (and along with that, meditating on crucifixes that depict it), since He is long since resurrected, glorified, and ascended to heaven.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"6mhn4-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6mhn4-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6mhn4-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"1dmbi-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1dmbi-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"1dmbi-0-0\">Why, then, is <em>this<\/em>\u00a0passage in the Bible?:<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"c13m2-0-0\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"c13m2-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"c13m2-0-0\"><strong>Revelation 5:6<\/strong> (RSV) And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders, I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, . . . <\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"5kbam-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"5kbam-0-0\">Why would God want St. John to see <strong><em>this<\/em><\/strong> scene, if indeed, Protestant reasoning in this regard is true? It doesn\u2019t \u201cfit.\u201d St. John specifically sees a \u201cLamb . . . slain.\u201d Also in the same context, Jesus is specifically <em><strong>worshiped<\/strong><\/em> <em>as He is seen in this fashion<\/em>:<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"cbe90-0-0\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"cbe90-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"cbe90-0-0\"><strong>Revelation 5:8-14<\/strong> And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints; [9] and they sang a new song, saying, \u201cWorthy art thou to take the scroll and to open its seals, for thou wast slain and by thy blood didst ransom men for God from every tribe and tongue and people and nation,\u00a0<\/span>[10] and hast made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on earth.\u201d [11] Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, [12] saying with a loud voice, \u201cWorthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!\u201d [13] And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all therein, saying, \u201cTo him who sits upon the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might for ever and ever!\u201d [14] And the four living creatures said, \u201cAmen!\u201d and the elders fell down and worshiped.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"1a45u-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1a45u-0-0\">This is virtually a Catholic Mass. It\u2019s not risen, glorified Jesus Who is visually present, but the slain Lamb. In the Mass, the sacrifice of the cross is made present; time is transcended. And in many Catholic Churches, the image of Jesus that is seen in front is, precisely, the crucified Jesus.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"2jkfi-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2jkfi-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2jkfi-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"bsb00-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"bsb00-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"bsb00-0-0\">Likewise, St. Paul refers to \u201cChrist crucified\u201d and similar descriptions in addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/quod.lib.umich.edu\/cgi\/r\/rsv\/rsv-idx?type=simple&amp;format=Long&amp;q1=raised&amp;restrict=New+Testament&amp;size=First+100\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">risen, glorified Jesus<\/a>:<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"ctto3-0-0\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"ctto3-0-0\"><strong>1 Corinthians 1:22-23<\/strong> For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, [23] but <strong><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">we preach Christ crucified<\/span><\/em><\/strong>, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div data-offset-key=\"ethss-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"ctto3-0-0\"><strong>1 Corinthians 1:17-18<\/strong> For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the cross of Christ<\/span> be emptied of its power. [18] For <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the word of the cross<\/span> is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"eoueg-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"eoueg-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"eoueg-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"a07u6-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"a07u6-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"a07u6-0-0\"><strong>1 Corinthians 2:1-2<\/strong> When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. [2] For <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"a07u6-0-0\">*<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"a07u6-0-0\"><strong>2 Corinthians 4:10<\/strong>\u00a0always <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">carrying in the body the death of Jesus<\/span>, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"1hpmm-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1hpmm-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"1hpmm-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"a0dgg-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"a0dgg-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"a0dgg-0-0\"><strong>Galatians 2:20<\/strong> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">I have been crucified with Christ<\/span>; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"5i2cl\" data-offset-key=\"964u4-0-0\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"964u4-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"964u4-0-0\"><strong>Galatians 6:14<\/strong> But <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ<\/span>, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"964u4-0-0\">*<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"964u4-0-0\"><strong>Philippians 3:10\u00a0<\/strong>that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death<\/span>,<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"964u4-0-0\">*<\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"964u4-0-0\"><strong>Colossians 1:24\u00a0<\/strong>Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ\u2019s afflictions<\/span> for the sake of his body, that is, the church, (cf.
