It doesn\u2019t take a science or medical degree (or any degree) to conclude that drug <em>X<\/em> <em>may indeed<\/em> be adequate to the purpose: anymore than it takes such knowledge to know and understand that water helps a dehydrated person or that insulin helps a diabetic, or that Tylenol alleviates headaches and toothaches.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"l7nr-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"l7nr-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"l7nr-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"2jvpm-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2jvpm-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2jvpm-0-0\">There are not adequate studies about hydroxychloroquine and coronavirus as of yet (for lack of enough time having passed since this virus has sprung up), but what we<strong><em> do<\/em><\/strong> have is the clinical experience of an increasing number of doctors who have prescribed it and have seen its remarkable success (see the links below).<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"cprop-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"cprop-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"cprop-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"5j7kb-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"5j7kb-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"5j7kb-0-0\">Hydroxychloroquine is already approved and established as an anti-malaria drug, so it\u2019s not inconceivable that it may be effective for other conditions as well. Further research can substantiate that by the strictest scientific criteria. Right now, we are trying to save lives.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"bfott-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"bfott-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"bfott-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"ekflj-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"ekflj-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"ekflj-0-0\">If I am a patient on my deathbed and the doctor says, \u201cthere is no hope for you except <em>perhaps<\/em> this one \u201csemi\u201d-approved drug, that has indeed helped many COVID-19 sufferers become well. Would you like to <em>try<\/em> it?\u201d Anyone in their right mind would immediately say yes.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"dskeu-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"dskeu-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"dskeu-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"d90ug-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"d90ug-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"d90ug-0-0\">As an analogy, ancient peoples discovered that a certain mold helped to cure people. They didn\u2019t know <em>why<\/em> or <em>how<\/em> it did so. All that mattered was that it made people well.\u00a0<\/span>When modern medicine came along, it discovered that indeed there was a powerful antidote and disease-fighter (i.e., an antibiotic) in particular kinds of mold. We now know it as <em>penicillin<\/em> (discovered in 1928). Now, was it rational to use the mold to heal folks before 1928? <em>Of course<\/em>, it <strong><em>was<\/em><\/strong> . . .<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"9f97k-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9f97k-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"9f97k-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"acnqm-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"acnqm-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"acnqm-0-0\">Another example is white willow bark: in use for centuries as a natural painkiller (I have actually taken a lot of it lately for a shoulder injury). <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Salix_alba\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Wikipedia<\/a> states about it:<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"13qgd-0-0\">\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"13qgd-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"13qgd-0-0\">Hippocrates, Galen, Pliny the Elder and others believed willow bark could ease aches and pains and reduce fevers. It has long been used in Europe and China for the attempted treatment of these conditions. This remedy is also mentioned in texts from ancient Egypt, Sumer, and Assyria. The first \u201cclinical trial\u201d was reported by Reverend Edward Stone, a vicar from Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire, England, in 1763 with a successful treatment of malarial fever with the willow bark. . . .<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"e1naa-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"e1naa-0-0\">The active extract of the bark, called salicin, after the Latin name Salix, was isolated to its crystalline form in 1828 by Henri Leroux, a French pharmacist, and Raffaele Piria, an Italian chemist, who then succeeded in separating out the acid in its pure state. Salicylic acid, like aspirin, is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health\/willow-bark-natures-aspirin\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">chemical derivative of salicin<\/a>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"8odt7-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8odt7-0-0\">So the effective pain-killing ingredient of aspirin was in white willow bark all along. Was it rational, then, to use white willow bark for pain, before aspirin was available (and before modern science and medicine existed)? Again, <em>of <strong>course<\/strong><\/em> it was. The proof\u2019s in the pudding.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"flj2e-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"flj2e-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"flj2e-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"9rkuf-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9rkuf-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"9rkuf-0-0\">It\u2019s the same with hydroxychloroquine. We can know (in some sense besides the rigidly scientific) that it works from doctors\u2019 case studies and hundreds of anecdotal reports, even before it is scientifically verified under the usual strict, controlled conditions.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"ftjj5-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"ftjj5-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"ftjj5-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"8oe05-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8oe05-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8oe05-0-0\">The only reason, I submit, anyone thinking rationally about this would conclude <em>otherwise<\/em>, is because they have been drawn into the political hogwash surrounding anything within a thousand miles of being associated with the dreaded, despised, abhorred Donald Trump.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"6tua8-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6tua8-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6tua8-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"elole-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"elole-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"elole-0-0\">But if Trump says \u201c2 + 2 = 4,\u201d it still equals four, doesn\u2019t it? Likewise, if he says, \u201chydroxychloroquine works to heal many people with coronavirus,\u201d it still remains true <strong><em>if<\/em><\/strong> real formerly virus-plagued people are out there with their medical case histories, who have in fact recovered due to taking it. And it is true even though evil, wicked Trump (Vlad the Impaler and Attila the Hun rolled into one) agrees with the statement. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"1ckdp-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1ckdp-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"1ckdp-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"d29bq\" data-offset-key=\"3gtii-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"3gtii-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"3gtii-0-0\">A thing is not <em>true<\/em> simply because someone (however famous or notable) <em>said<\/em> it was (genetic fallacy), nor is it <em>untrue<\/em> simply because a widely <em>despised<\/em> person said it was true (the same logical fallacy in reverse).<\/span><\/div>\n<div data-offset-key=\"3gtii-0-0\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"3gtii-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"3gtii-0-0\">I\u2019m only saying what hundreds of doctors are <em>already<\/em> saying (as the nine articles below document). I would never pretend to be an expert on medical issues such as this without that back-up. I have never told anyone \u2014 including coronavirus patients \u2014 to go against what their doctors say, and I have supported the shutdown, based on the experts\u2019 opinions.
