Long have I lived; my earthly end now drawing near
\nWaiting for the Messiah, to come deliver our land
\nTo fulfill all our hopes and soothe ever-present fears
\nAnd rescue His chosen people by His mighty hand<\/div>\n

We have suffered for many years, in the utmost travail
\nThe conquering Romans our faith and freedoms deny
\nYet Yahweh long ago promised that He would prevail

The Spirit told me that before this world I should depart
\nI would see Messiah, God\u2019s Son, with mine own eyes
\nThus comforted, I watched and sought, glad of heart

\nIn search of the precious babe, whose child I am
\nTo behold righteous Joseph and humble Mary lowly
\nAmidst all the sacrifices of pigeons and of lambs\n

In a mere instant I knew in Whose presence I crept
\nAn infant basked in glowing sanctity, and awesome light
\nHis face glimpsed but for a moment, I rejoiced and wept
\nUplifted and surrounded by pure new contentment bright<\/div>\n

* * *Overtaken by emotion I grasped my Lord in my arms
\nProfusely thanking God for blessing me in that hour
\nMary and Joseph were astonished but feared no harm
\nI passed His blessing along to them: joy and power<\/div>\n

But alongside the peace came a troubling message sober
\nRevealing what the Son was destined to pass through
\nBy Him all could be saved when the dreadful ordeal was over
\nBut a terrible price would be paid; this Mary already knew<\/div>\n

I saw a fleeting sadness in her holy, beautiful face
\nAs I spoke of a sword passing through her own heart
\nBut of despair in the blessed Virgin I saw not a trace
\nGod had given her the abundant grace to fulfill her part<\/div>\n

Then the divine child intently gazed for a long time at me
\nAs if to say, \u201cI have willingly come to save all mankind.
\nMy mother understands and the Father\u2019s entire plan sees.

\nAnd marveled at God\u2019s mercy and love towards sinners like me.<\/div>\n
