There is, I submit, a very good reason for that. The DNA that a human being will utilize for his or her entire life is already present in this fertilized cell. And it seems to me that that, too, is a key element of the human and personal identity of a human being / person. It makes us unique and is our “code” or ultimate identifying mark. Science verifies this:

Although life is a continuous process, fertilization is a critical landmark because, under ordinary circumstances, a new, genetically distinct human organism is thereby formed…. The combination of 23 chromosomes present in each pronucleus results in 46 chromosomes in the zygote. Thus the diploid number is restored and the embryonic genome is formed. It’s the same person in the sense of inexorable development; just as an acorn may be said to not be an oak tree; yet every oak tree was once an acorn. Dave’s articles have appeared in many influential Catholic periodicals, including "This Rock" (now called "Catholic Answers Magazine"), "Envoy Magazine" (Patrick Madrid), "The Catholic Answer," "The Coming Home Journal," "Gilbert Magazine" (American Chesterton Society), and "The Latin Mass." He also writes a featured column for every issue of "The Michigan Catholic": published by the archdiocese of Detroit, and was editor for most of the apologetics tracts published by the St. Paul Street Evangelization apostolate. Dave’s apologetics and writing apostolate was the subject of a feature article in the May 2002 issue of "Envoy Magazine." He served as the staff moderator at the Internet discussion forum for The Coming Home Network, from 2007-2010. Unsolicited correspondence has indicated many hundreds of conversions (or returns) to the Catholic faith as a result, by God's grace, of these writings. Dave's conversion story was published in the bestselling book "Surprised by Truth" (edited by Patrick Madrid; San Diego: Basilica Press, 1994). Sophia Institute Press has published six of his books: "A Biblical Defense of Catholicism" (Foreword by Fr. John A. Hardon, S.
