Solidarity is a word seen badly by the spirit of the world!<\/p>\n
\u2666\u00a0I encourage the financial experts and the political leaders of your countries to consider the words of Saint John Chrysostom: \u201cNot to share one\u2019s goods with the poor is to rob them and to deprive them of life. It is not our goods that we possess, but theirs.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2666\u00a0I believe that, yes, the times talk to us of so much poverty in the world and this is a scandal. Poverty in the world is a scandal. In a world where there is so much wealth, so many resources to feed everyone, it is unfathomable that there are so many hungry children, that there are so many children without an education, so many poor persons. Poverty today is a cry. We all have to think if we can become a little poorer, all of us have to do this. How can I become a little poorer in order to be more like Jesus, who was the poor Teacher?<\/p>\n
\u2666\u00a0You have a specific and important mission, that of keeping alive the relationship between the faith and the cultures of the peoples to whom you belong. . . . [W]e have to follow Christ along the concrete path of our daily lives so that he can transform us.<\/p>\n
\u2666\u00a0The Church must step outside herself. To go where? To the outskirts of existence, whatever they may be, but she must step out. Jesus tells us: \u201cGo into all the world! Go! Preach! Bear witness to the Gospel!\u201d (cf. Mk 16:15). . . . In this \u201cstepping out\u201d it is important to be ready for encounter. For me this word is very important. Encounter with others. Why? Because faith is an encounter with Jesus, and we must do what Jesus does: encounter others . . . with our faith we must create a \u201cculture of encounter\u201d, a culture of friendship, a culture in which we find brothers and sisters, in which we can also speak with those who think differently, as well as those who hold other beliefs, who do not have the same faith. They all have something in common with us: they are images of God, they are children of God. Going out to meet everyone, without losing sight of our own position.<\/p>\n
\u2666\u00a0[I]t is necessary to reaffirm the conviction that every family is the principal setting for the growth of each individual, since it is through the family that human beings become open to life and the natural need for relationships with others. Over and over again we see that family bonds are essential for the stability of relationships in society, for the work of education and for integral human development, for they are inspired by love, responsible inter-generational solidarity and mutual trust. These are factors which can make even the most adverse situations more bearable . . . .<\/p>\n
