On Wednesday, I wrote about my adventures with Hide and Seek.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nBeing \u201cit\u201d was thrilling at first, until you weren\u2019t found. And then panic and fear would set in.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Some, spend their whole lives getting lost, soaking in the familiar waters of isolation. It\u2019s a world I don\u2019t understand.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
Lyla Lindquist is one of the most insightful writers I know, and she regularly writes at A Different Story<\/a>. She had a different recollection of getting lost. Recently she<\/span> wrote<\/a> about losing her friends on a 3<\/span>rd<\/sup>\u00a0grade field trip.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
She writes this. \u201cI don\u2019t remember the panic of being lost. And I don\u2019t remember if I set off in search of my friends or froze on the trail waiting for someone to come for me.\u00a0I\u00a0do\u00a0remember the humiliation of being found.\u201d<\/i>\n

<\/p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n


<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
That last line was striking and so telling of the human condition.\n

<\/p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

How many of us wander and do everything we can to keep from being found out. We take evasive measures, avoiding friends and family, running from the hounds of heaven that could bring us home?\n

<\/p><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

We are lost. We don\u2019t like it, but the process of being found is something we avoid at all costs.\n

Lila recalls how she avoided the humiliation. \u201cI plotted how I might sneak back into the classroom unnoticed. I\u2019d stop in the bathroom, wash up and walk in smiling and whistling like nothing had happened.\n

<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n
\u201cAnd I wondered, at the time, if it were not better to be lost than found. Staying lost, I reasoned, at least one could carry on unseen.\u201d<\/span>\n

\u00a0I\u2019m interested how this plays into things. Is this why people stay lost? Is it because they don\u2019t want to face the music of their own condition? Is the tune too uncomfortable, the chords a reminder of what could have been?<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
