Do we really want to hear the truth? Or do we want others to feed us what we want to hear?<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s a tough question, because often the truth hurts . Just look at the lengths we go to disguise it, to hide it, to forget it.<\/span><\/p>\n

I tried to play basketball as a high schooler. And I just didnt have what it took. No amount of effort could make my feet work in harmony with my knees. No amount of practice could get my shot to float in an arc. No amount of drills could make me better.\u00a0No amount of effort would ever make you qualified. I would never move from the end of the bench. <\/span><\/p>\n

For our kids today, who are told they can do anything, the painful truth is a ceiling that wicked hurts.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are certain physical features that we can\u2019t admit. A growing circle at the top of our heads, or hips that are wider than ever are reminders that we aren\u2019t what we used to be.<\/span>

<\/span>
I realize a few things about myself. I am prone to exaggeration, to mood swings, and to manipulation. I will never be skinny, will probably frustrate those closest to me, and will not be a book writer. I\u2019m sure \u00a0 friends and family can add to the list of painful truths.<\/span><\/p>\n

As Red Letter Believers, we are called to honesty about everything \u2014 even ourselves.<\/span><\/p>\n
