What drives you so strongly to do something? What makes you change your heart, your mind, your very being?<\/p>\n<p>Think about it. Our strongest emotions, the ones we experience so passionately, are often linked to their opposites.\u00a0<em style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">We embrace good because we have seen evil.<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">We run to the light because we have walked through the dark night.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I feed my lawn and mow it regularly because I so dislike the brown patchy look of my neighbor\u2019s lawn. I never let my car get below a 1\/4 of a tank because of the time I had to walk a mile, gas can in hand. I lock my doors because I dislike the thought of an intruder.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">l don\u2019t think about this duality of life in every day terms, but instinctively know it to be true. While i love the sweet nectar of a ripe peach, I appreciate it that much more because of the taste of the sour grape. I appreciate a <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">olored sunset of autumn because I have seen the gray sky of winter. \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Love is not enough<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And when it comes to the Gospel Good News, it\u2019s full impact is realized when contrasted with the bad news of sin, depravity, and man\u2019s utter hopeless. It \u2018s dishonest, divisive, and destructive when we leave out those things in pursuit of acceptance.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">Embracing truth means that there will be a friction between action and conviction. \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">That\u2019s not hate as we are accused. <\/span><em><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">\u00a0It\u2019s the ultimate love.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1400\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1400\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/580\/2014\/01\/6361447763_a2a2a305c8.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1400\" alt=\"Photo CoffeeGeek\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/580\/2014\/01\/6361447763_a2a2a305c8.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1400\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo CoffeeGeek<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We have a whole movement of teachers \u00a0who think it\u2019s just the wrong message to speak about <em>evil,<\/em> when there is so much good news to preach. <a class=\"zem_slink decorated-link\" title=\"Norman Vincent Peale\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Norman_Vincent_Peale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Norman Vincent Peale<\/a> passed the torch to <a class=\"zem_slink decorated-link\" title=\"Robert H. Schuller\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_H._Schuller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Robert Schuller<\/a> who passed it to <a class=\"zem_slink decorated-link\" title=\"Joel Osteen\" href=\"http:\/\/www.joelosteen.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Joel Osteen<\/a>. \u00a0And then there are others \u2013 <a class=\"zem_slink decorated-link\" title=\"Rob Bell\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rob_Bell\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Rob Bell<\/a> comes to mind, who have decided that \u201cLove\u201d is much better option than \u201cthe Truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You see, anyone can love. The atheist, the <a href='https:\/\/www.patheos.com\/library\/buddhism' target='_blank'>Buddhist<\/a>, the Sikh, the terrorist. \u2014 they can love their neighbor, express genuine appreciation for their mother and even a deity. And yes, they can be loved by others, by God, and by me. <em>But in the end \u201clove\u201d will do them no good.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">As same-sex marriage sweeps our land, we are told that these are loving couples who deserve compassion and fairness. And it doesn\u2019t stop there, as social programs are undergirded with the \u201clove first\u201d slogan.
