Today it\u2019s supposed to snow 10-12 inches.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<span><em>\u201cWill it be the winter of despair or the spring of hope?\u201d<\/em> asked Charles Dickens. In a thousand different ways in a thousand different times I\u2019ve asked that very question in my heart of hearts. I\u2019m not alone. It even comes out in playful traditions, like\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/punxsutawney%20phil\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Punxsutawney Phil<\/a>,\u00a0<span>the erstwhile groundhog in Punxsatawney, PA, who saw his shadow this morning.<\/span>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-U4z0ycY8ft8\/TyqKCChGVyI\/AAAAAAAABus\/J5Jf2Y4dZzE\/s1600\/2935884712_c60bfef57b.jpg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"179\" src=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-U4z0ycY8ft8\/TyqKCChGVyI\/AAAAAAAABus\/J5Jf2Y4dZzE\/s320\/2935884712_c60bfef57b.jpg\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span><br><\/span>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<span>These days we stand on the precipice of seasonal change. For some, winter was harsh with its cold and snow, wet and wind. It seems like it never ends. For years, I lived in a <\/span>Wyoming<span> climate that guaranteed five months of snow on the ground. <\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>There was nothing like the day when the sun broke through, mud was everywhere, and although the temperature was no more than 40 degrees, college kids were in the parks throwing Frisbees with their shirts off.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN\"><span>Dickens continued to write of in <em>aTale of Two Cities<\/em>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<blockquote><p>\n<i><span lang=\"EN\"><span>\u201c<\/span><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN\"><span>It was the best of times, the worst of times.<br><\/span><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN\"><span>It was the age of wisdom; it was the age of foolishness.<\/span><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN\"><span>It was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of light<\/span><\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN\"><span>It was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/i>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN\"><span>We all live in that contrast. If not personally, we certainly experience it interrelationally.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<span lang=\"EN\"><span>When things are going well for me, I\u2019m often cautious about expressing my joy. Someone may be in the throes of despair and I don\u2019t want to be only one living a party.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span>Conversely, when darkness descends on me, I\u2019m reticent to talk about for fear I\u2019ll extinguish their hope.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<span lang=\"EN\"><\/span><span lang=\"EN\"><span>Most of the time, <b>I can endure my own despair, but I can\u2019t really handle someone else\u2019s hope<\/b>.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN\"><span>We walk in a world of contrast, light and dark, good and bad, beautiful and ugly. The great philospher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arlo.net\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"Arlo Guthrie\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\">Arlo Guthrie<\/a> once said, <i>\u201cIf you don\u2019t ever know the darkness, man, you\u2019ll never really appreciate the light.\u201d<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span lang=\"EN\"><span>That\u2019s why the first bulbs of spring give such delight.
