Last year, I was blessed to attend the Laity Lodge Writer\u2019s Retreat, located about two hours from San Antonio. If Texas sounds unappealing to you in the West and North, this location will forever change your preconceptions.The location is\u00a0magnificent, with great hiking, kayaking and swimming.\u00a0I was totally isolated.<\/span>

And the real beauty of this retreat? There\u2019s no agents, book selling or hawking. It\u2019s all about the writing.<\/span>

I\u2019m headed back.\u00a0<\/b>This year, the writer\u2019s retreat is being held Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.<\/span>

<\/span>
There are fantastic general sessions, focusing on the heart and soul of the writer and then specialized workshops.<\/span>

<\/span>
Five workshops are scheduled:\u00a0Me, Myself and God: Spiritual Writing and Memoir in the Light of Faith<\/strong>, taught by Gregory Wolfe<\/a>, writer-in-residence at Seattle Pacific University;\u00a0Parable and Play: How to Write Stories Worth Reading More than Once<\/strong>, led by Jeffrey Overstreet<\/a>, author and film critic;\u00a0Gold from Straw: Poetry<\/strong>, taught by Julia Kasdorf<\/a>, English professor and director of the Masters of Fine Arts program at Penn State University;\u00a0T<\/strong>ake and Think: Consuming Art in Order to Make Our Own<\/strong>, led by David Dark<\/a>, author of\u00a0Everyday Apocalypse<\/a>: The Sacred Revealed in Radiohead, The Simpsons and Other Pop Culture Icons;\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Songwriting<\/strong>, led by professional songwriters Jill Phillips<\/a> and Andy Gullahorn.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
