On Tuesday, some of the hosts and guests on ABC\u2019s \u201cThe View\u201d had a good time mocking Vice President \u00a0Mike Pence<\/a>\u2019s faith.<\/p>\n

The conversation on the clip<\/a> was shameful, that in this country, the home of the brave and the free, that someone\u2019s faith could be so openly be disparaged.<\/p>\n

We are all just starting to get acquainted with Omarosa Manigault Newman<\/a>, who left President Trump\u2019s team and is now launching a new reality career of dishing on her experiences. That\u2019s fair in politics, but she\u2019s particularly unnerved by the faith VP Pence.<\/p>\n

Manigault- Newman\u2019s comment, which aired on Celebrity Big Brother<\/a>, was this: \u201cHe\u2019s extreme.<\/strong> I\u2019m Christian, I love Jesus. But he thinks Jesus tells him to say things, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Jesus didn\u2019t say that.\u2019 Scary.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The View Co-host Joy Behar commented on the clip. \u201cIt\u2019s one thing to talk to Jesus. It\u2019s another thing when Jesus talks to you. That\u2019s called mental illness<\/strong> if I\u2019m not correct. Hearing voices,\u201d she said. \u201cWhat concerns me is how long is the conversation with Jesus,\u201d her co-host added.<\/p>\n

Hearing Voices<\/h2>\n

She might have been trying to score shock points, as she regularly does in many situations, at VP Pence\u2019s expense. \u00a0She might have been trying to get a rise out of her guests. She might have been playing to the audience.<\/p>\n

Regardless of her motivation, I have news for her \u2013 Men and women have been talking to God for millennia \u2013 and yes, He talks back.<\/p>\n

The Bible is replete with full on conversations with God.\u00a0 Samuel. David. Daniel. Moses. The Prophets.\u00a0 While I would love to hear an audible voice, I\u2019m not sure I could handle that. But I am certain he has spoken to me, clear as day. And to billions of others, he has spoken to them as well.<\/p>\n

Does He speak today? Why wouldn\u2019t He. I would hope that he is speaking to our leaders, if not audibly then through a variety of methods.<\/p>\n

There are many ways we hear God.<\/h3>\n

Christians believe that the first way to hear God is through His Scriptures<\/strong>. The words through the ages leap out of the pages. If you are skeptic, I dare you to find a passage of Scripture and watch it apply to your life.<\/p>\n

What does the Bible have to say about money<\/a>? About relationships?<\/a> About being a citizen<\/a>? Just about any situation has an answer and if you let it steep, you\u2019ll find that it does speak \u2013 and you will hear.<\/p>\n

And yes, God speaks through nature<\/strong>. The stronger the telescope and the microscope, the stronger the voice shouts. Spend an hour on a mountaintop \u2013 alone \u2013 and there\u2019s something that you hear. \u00a0Romans 1:20<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 says this is by design, \u201cFor since the creation of the world God\u2019s invisible qualities\u2013his eternal power and divine nature\u2013have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elijah was a great example of how God speaks. He let the fire pass. He let the hurricane winds pass. And finally, he heard him<\/a> through <\/strong>a still small voice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sometimes God uses other people<\/strong>. I\u2019ve been so hard-headed at times that it took other people mouthing the words of God so I would start to listen.<\/p>\n

God even uses nonbelievers <\/strong>\u2013 people who will say things or ask questions that will jolt me into reality.<\/p>\n

Jesus Calling<\/h3>\n

Yes, Joy, we also believe that Jesus speaks<\/strong> to us. Hebrews 1:1-2<\/strong><\/a> says, \u201cIn the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Of course there is the crazy man on the sidewalk, claiming God told him to dance naked on the fire hydrant. There\u2019s the woman that thinks God told her she was Beyonce and that she should sing Amazing Grace at your father\u2019s funeral. Put all that aside, God does speak.<\/p>\n

I would much rather have a Vice President that listens to God, than a leader who pushes every divine voice away. I would much rather follow a leader who is humble enough to claim that he doesn\u2019t know the answer to every question. I am comfortable following a man who on his knees asks God for help.<\/p>\n

If the Vice President has a mental illness for talking to Jesus, then call me crazy too.<\/p>\n

Maybe, as a nation, we can mock a little less and listen a little more.<\/p>\n
