I suffer from\u00a0shiny object syndrome (SOS). <\/span><\/p>\n

I once fell down a flight of stairs because I was fidgeting with a tight buttonhole on my shirt and missed a step.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

And then there was the time I backed into a street light because I was looking at gleaming new car that was parked next to me. <\/span>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

The Internet is a great place for Shiny objects. I click here<\/span>.<\/a><\/span> And then a blue click here<\/a><\/span> appears. \u201cOh, pretty!\u201d<\/i><\/span>
And then before you know it, I\u2019m so far off course, I don\u2019t know how I got there. It\u2019s a surfer\u2019s nightmare. Floating way out in the ocean, when all I wanted was to catch that little wave.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n

I lose my way on projects at work and home, SOS kicking in full gear, while I fuss away at something else. Great books lie by bedside, a bookmark collecting dust after just a few chapters because I found a \u201cbetter\u201d read.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n

My spiritual life has been littered by SOS. There was a day when I fixated on the end-times. Larry Norman<\/a> sang, \u201cI Wish we\u2019d all been Ready<\/span><\/a>\u201d <\/i>and Hal Lindsay preached about the Late Great Planet Earth<\/span><\/a>.<\/i> Then I moved to personal evangelism, passing out Four Spiritual Laws<\/a> and telling people \u201cI found It\u201d I went through the creation phase in my life, heaven-bent on showing the intelligence in the design. And then I had an apologetics season, where proof texts could destroy any secular argument. <\/span>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Now, I realize I just need a faith fixation<\/b>.\u00a0All the end-of-days-evangelism-apologetic-creationism stuff really doesn\u2019t matter when all you really need is Jesus. <\/span><\/div>\n

My Shiny Object<\/a>. This is one obsession I hope to never get over.<\/span>\n<\/div>\n
