We all hear voices. That\u2019s why therapists, counselors and clergy have no shortage of work.<\/p>\n

We hear voices from our past: Teachers, preachers, and parents told us what to do. They weren\u2019t always nice about it.<\/p>\n

Then there are the voices from cynics, critics and doubters whose disbelief in us still rings in our ears.<\/p>\n

And then there are the voices calling out our names today. <\/p>\n

Somewhere in the din is the voice of God. I heard it. Not just once, but all throughout my life. Most of the time I ignored it, because I didn\u2019t believe or was just too stubborn to listen. <\/p>\n

But like a distant whisper, I know it\u2019s Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou are my beloved.\u201d<\/em><\/div>\n

I haven\u2019t always felt beloved. In fact, I was a misfit. And you probably were too.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I can relate to David. When Samuel came to anoint one of Jesse\u2019s sons, David was sent out to tend the sheep because he was called \u201cthe little one.\u201d<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And later, when the boys of the family were sent out to take on the Philistines, David was sent not with a sword or armor, but with bread and cheese.<\/div>\n

Some warrior. Some king. What an introduction. \u201cHere comes dinky with the cheese plate.\u201d<\/em>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
But David,\u00a0the beloved one, was chosen and honored as a \u201cman after God\u2019s heart.\u201d\n
<\/div>\n

He kept on, despite rejection, \u00a0because he\u00a0heard God. And if you listen hard enough, so will you.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

\u201cThe Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the\u00a0Lord looks at the\u00a0 heart.\u201d<\/em>
