I was inspired by a short post <\/a>by Jon Acuff last week who wrote \u201cThis is for all the people who have made mistakes and hold out hope that it\u2019s not impossible to return<\/em>.\u201d <\/p>\n

That\u2019s me!<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been reminded of past failure so much that they now are part of my resume. It\u2019s a tattoo for all to see. It\u2019s a rock that I drag around for all to wonder. It\u2019s an anchor that holds my heart.<\/p>\n

Acuff uses Joseph in Gen 43 as an illustration. Joseph is charged with feeding\u00a0 Egypt, and his scoundrel brothers who sold him into slavery come begging for food. <\/p>\n

Joseph demands that Benjamin be brought before him, but Israel, the father, is unwilling to lose yet another son. But Judah, the older brother gives a guarantee.<\/p>\n

\u201cSend the boy along with me and we will go at once, so that we and you and our children may live and not die. I myself will guarantee his safety; you can hold me personally responsible for him. If I do not bring him back to you and set him here before you, I will bear the blame before you all my life.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Acuff notes that Judah is murderer and adulterer himself, but he\u2019s making amends. He\u2019s standing up for integrity. He\u2019s ready to move\u00a0beyond his past and be\u00a0a stand-up guy.\u00a0Acuff dissects the verse and notes the personal responsiblity:<\/p>\n

Send the boy along with me<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/a>We<\/strong> will go<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\nI myself<\/strong> guarantee his safety<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
You can hold me<\/strong> personally responsible<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

If I<\/strong> do not bring him back<\/p>\n

I will bear the blame<\/strong> before you all my life.<\/p>\n

Acuff says, \u201cI love that the Bible is full of mess ups that come back. Abject failures of human beings that through God\u2019s grace are pulled from the pit and do some tremendous things.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

So, here I am God. Ready to stand upright. I\u2019ve taken my lumps. I\u2019ve paid my dues. I\u2019ve lived out the consequences. I\u2019ve suffered at the hands of a hardened heart. I\u2019ve failed so many people. I haven\u2019t lived up to Your name. I\u2019m broken. <\/p>\n

You can fix me.
You can bring me home.
You can put a song in my heart again.<\/p>\n

Let the comeback begin.<\/strong><\/p>\n
