Ahhh. America. Home of the brave \u00ad\u00ad\u2013 and the free.<\/p>\n

But wait a minute. Freedom of speech in the workplace is hitting the brakes. According<\/a> to Philadelphia workplace and career columnist LESLIE WHITAKER,many companies are imposing limitations on speech. It seems what you can \u2013 and cannot say \u2013 now goes far beyond basic decency rules.<\/p>\n

According to Whitaker, one prominent employment law firm advised its clients to forbid the following in their offices: \u201cany reference to any part of an employee\u2019s body, race, ethnicity, religion or disability.\u201d \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So now this kind of talk is in poor taste. What constitutes talk about one\u2019s body? \u201cMy eyes are sure watering,\u201d <\/em>and \u201cI can\u2019t get rid of that itchy,scratchy scalp<\/em>.\u201d Who defines what is acceptable?<\/p>\n

And what is talk about \u201creligion.\u201d Could a simple mention of church attendance or a Bible Study group be grounds for company discipline?<\/p>\n
