The way we communicate with words changes continually.<\/p>\n<p>One of the more interesting changes occurring now is the proliferation of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/2006\/02\/03\/nokia-mcdonalds-slogans-cx_jt_0206trout.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">sloganeering<\/a>\u201d, reducing an entire argument to a few words that hopefully can convey the full meaning. \u201cPolitics of change,\u201d \u201cDiamonds are forever,\u201d and \u201cWork smarter, not harder\u201dare all examples of the abbreviated way in which we communicate.<\/p>\n<p>The Boston <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nba.com\/celtics\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Celtics<\/a>, known for their <a href=\"http:\/\/hoopedia.nba.com\/index.php\/Boston_Celtics_Dynasty\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">dominant days <\/a>of basketball perfection in the late 70\u2019s, are sad reflections of those glory days. Every year, they launch each new season with a snappy slogan. First, there was \u201cNo More Games,\u201d then there was \u201cHonor the Tradition\u201d and recently, \u201cBuilding the Tradition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, several year of lackluster performance have left Celtic fans grumbling and a whole genre of fan inspired slogans have cropped up. \u201cExcitement is Bad For the Heart,\u201d \u201cBring Back The Obstructed View Seats,\u201d \u201cPain is Temporary, Pride is Forever,\u201d \u201cAt least We Have the Past\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s Not Easy Being Green.\u201d The Boston fans simply will not mouth the team slogan without a competitive team to back it up.<\/p>\n<p>We can all be accused of the glibness and meaninglessness in our language. Words are mouthed without much feeling or conviction or passion. They are simple syllables passing lips, reduced to mere sounds that are made in conjunction with other sounds to form words. At home we might say words like \u201cThis hurts me as bad as it hurts you\u201d or even \u201cI love you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How about you?
