I remember coming home from work and there was my son, lying on his stomach in the living room. He was surrounded by crayons and pieces of paper.<\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\u201cWhat are you doing, son?\u201d\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cI\u2019m working,\u201d he said resolutely, his tongue pushed toward his cheek with a look of intensity that meant business. \u00a0\u201cReally hard.\u201d\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
20 minutes later he produced an elaborately colored picture. \u201cI used every crayon,\u201d he announced. \u201cDo you like it?\u201d\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cOf course I do,\u201d I said, surveying the elaborate details of the labor of love. \u201cIt\u2019s the best!\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cDo you see Josh?\u201d referring to his baby brother. The little oblong circle with four sticks coming out of him looked like a turtle, but I could see the impressionist artist within.\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cI drew mommy,\u201d he said proudly. \n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
She had flowing blue hair that reached to the ground with a radiant wardrobe, rich in color and detail.\u00a0<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I started looking for me, my insecurities rising. \u201cAnd here you are,\u201d he pointed. I didn\u2019t get the same grand treatment. I looked more like the family pet, standing on his hind legs. I even had floppy ears. But none of that mattered. It was a work of art and it was going on the refrigerator.<\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
As time went on, that refrigerator held many achievements. Report cards, ribbons, pictures from t-ball, notes from coaches and Scouting merit badge cards. The refrigerator was the family billboard, screaming of achievement.\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
That family applause of achievement never really ends. We cheer our children as they grow. Education, jobs, promotions and then kids of their own. The refrigerator is never really empty.\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
That\u2019s what I want to hear \u2013 and what any kid deep down inside want to hear. \u201cI\u2019m proud of you. You\u2019ve done well.\u201d<\/i>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
I wonder if when we get to heaven, God will have a refrigerator. What accomplishments will he hang? What matters to Him? I just want to hear those words:\u00a0 \u201cWell done, good and faithful\u2026\u201d<\/div>\n
