It takes a while \u2014 from parents\u2019 perspective, a<em>very long while<\/em> \u2014 for us to learn to contain our decorational impulses. Creativity, we\u2019re gradually conditioned to accept, is best confined to paper.<\/p>\n<p>The lesson must be learned, but the learning is sort of sad nonetheless. And it\u2019s why I love\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/designtaxi.com\/news\/352796\/For-Designers-To-Constantly-Doodle-A-Giant-Post-it-Note-Desk\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this desk<\/a>: a giant<a href=\"http:\/\/www.post-it.com\/wps\/portal\/3M\/en_US\/Post_It\/Global\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Post-it note<\/a> that exists to be mucked up by random writings and drawings. The work of Lisbon-based designer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.miguelmestre.info\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Miguel Mestre<\/a>, the desk is so retro that it\u2019s actually cutting-edge. Paper is an age-old technology, sure, but paper\u00a0<em>as desk<\/em> \u2014 furniture that demands to be doodled on \u2014 seems optimized for our particular moment. Though anything can trigger an idea \u2014 and though we humans have always found ways to be creative no matter what our environment \u2014 inspiration is, more than ever, everywhere. With the always-on Internet, with the radio, with TV and podcasts and ebooks and Twitter, we are in a constant state of latent ingenuity.
