Bishop Bernard Fellay gave an interview that was published on the society\u2019s website<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0Details, via CNS:<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The head of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X said he would inform the Vatican soon on the society\u2019s official position on Vatican efforts to bring the group back into full communion with the church.<\/p>\n

\"\"The response will insist that the society must preserve its identity, which is \u201cthe only efficacious means to help the church restore Christendom,\u201d said Bishop Bernard Fellay, superior general of the society.<\/p>\n

His remarks were contained in an interview published July 16 on the group\u2019s website, www.dici.org, after members of the society held their general chapter meeting to discuss Vatican efforts to bring them back into full communion.<\/p>\n

The bishop said the chapter meeting gave him an opportunity to explain fully his discussions with the Vatican and correspondence relating to a \u201cdoctrinal preamble,\u201d which the Vatican has asked the society to sign. The document, which has not been made public, outlined what the Vatican said were \u201cdoctrinal principles and criteria for the interpretation of Catholic doctrine necessary to guarantee fidelity\u201d to the formal teaching of the church.<\/p>\n

Bishop Fellay said the chapter discussions cleared up doubts and misunderstandings among the society\u2019s members, leading to \u201cpeace and unity of hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n

The members agreed that they must continue their mission to preserve what they see as Catholic tradition, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot keep silent when facing the rampant loss of faith, the staggering fall of the number of vocations, and the decrease of religious practice. We cannot refrain from speaking when confronted with the \u2018silent apostasy\u2019 and its causes,\u201d he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
