Well, I\u2019ve been at sea \u2014 in every sense \u2014 for the last several days and am finally at a place with an Internet connection that is somewhat better than crappy.\u00a0 So allow me to the 15th or 20th or 2,000th person to welcome to the Patheos family the freshly minted padre, Fr. Michael Duffy!\u00a0 (A sitting ovation erupts from\u00a0computer stations\u00a0around the globe).\u00a0 Far as I know, he\u2019s no relation to Elizabeth Duffy, but I could be wrong.\u00a0 But he\u2019s no stranger to Patheos, as Elizabeth Scalia can attest, and he\u2019s even made an appearance here at The Bench.<\/strong> <\/a><\/p>\n

He\u2019s a bright, enthusiastic, passionate young priest, prone to big laughs and big hugs.\u00a0 (I speak from experience, having experienced both for myself at his diaconate ordination last December.)\u00a0 His shiny new blog\u00a0\u00a0\u201cFather, Where Art Thou?\u201d\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>promises to be a morning must-read, chornicaling the life and times of a newly ordained priest finding his way in a modern landscape that, in matters religious, is often inhospitable (if not downright hostile.)\u00a0 But we are very hospitable here at Patheos, Fr. D, so make yourself right at home!\u00a0 Pull up a kneeler and stay a while.<\/p>\n

When I started The Bench five years ago,\u00a0I had been ordained all of two weeks and did it more or less because there just weren\u2019t a lot of deacon blogs out there.\u00a0 In a similar vein, there don\u2019t appear to be a lot of blogs out there by newly ordained priests, either, so I\u2019m delighted to see Fr. Michael Duffy jumping into the water\u00a0with both feet.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

If it turns out he can walk on that water, THAT will really be news!<\/p>\n
