The Johnny Cash biopic \u201cWalk the Line\u201d<\/a><\/strong> was on Ovation tonight, and the scene below just knocks it out of the park.<\/p>\n

Struggling songwriter and door-to-door salesman J.R. Cash (the incredibly good Joaquin Phoenix \u2014 why didn\u2019t he get the Oscar for this?) gets a chance to audition for legendary record producer Sam Phillips<\/a>,<\/strong> who is less-than-impressed with what he hears. \u00a0But watch what happens. Writer-director James Mangold nails it.\u00a0It\u2019s a great moment in the movies\u2014and, in a way, a cinematic homily. \u201cWould you sing something different?\u201d could be the defining question of our lives. Here, it is the start of one of the greatest musical odysseys of the 20th century.<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\nFootnote: Cash\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johnny_Cash%20\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Wikipedia entry<\/a><\/strong> says of his first marriage:<\/p>\n<blockquote>On July 18, 1951, while in Air Force training, Cash met 17-year-old\u00a0<a title=\"Vivian Liberto\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vivian_Liberto\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Vivian Liberto<\/a>\u00a0at a\u00a0<a title=\"Roller skating rink\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roller_skating_rink\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">roller skating rink<\/a>\u00a0in her native San Antonio. They dated for three weeks, until Cash\u00a0was deployed to Germany for a three-year tour. During that time, the couple exchanged hundreds of pages of\u00a0<a title=\"Love letter\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Love_letter\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">love letters<\/a>.<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Johnny_Cash#cite_note-TurnerSteve-29\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">[30]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0On August 7, 1954, one month after his discharge, they were married at St. Anne\u2019s Catholic church in San Antonio.
