I was surprised this weekend to hear of the death of lyricist Hal David,<\/a><\/strong> who penned some of the most enduring pop tunes of the \u201960s.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t realize just how prolific he had been until I read his obit in the Times and saw his output: <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cRaindrops Keep Fallin\u2019 On My Head,\u201d \u201cI Say A Little Prayer,\u201d \u201cAlfie,\u201d \u201cDo You Know the Way to San Jose,\u201d \u201cWhat\u2019s New, Pussycat?,\u201d \u201cWalk On By,\u201d \u201cClose to You\u201d and on and on and on. (Among other things, he and Burt Bacharach created what might be considered the entire Dionne Warwick oeuvre<\/em>.)<\/p>\n
