That\u2019s the theme for this year\u2019s Respect Life month, October.<\/p>\n

Details:<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

During October, designated each year as Respect Life Month by the U.S. Catholic Church, Catholics should \u201crenew their personal commitment to defend all human life, especially the most vulnerable members of the human family,\u201d said the chairman of the U.S. bishops\u2019 Committee on Pro-Life Activities.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u201cBy our unflinching defense of human life and religious freedom, by our witness to the transcendent nature of the human person, and by our compassionate service to our brothers and sisters in need, may we spark a renewal of love and commitment to the true good of others,\u201d said Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly a love that seeks to serve those most in need, whatever the personal cost to us, is strong enough to overcome a culture of death and build a civilization worthy of human beings made in God\u2019s image,\u201d he added in a statement.<\/p>\n

Respect Life Sunday, the first Sunday in October, kicks off a yearlong Respect Life Program, marked by special liturgies and events. The program theme for 2012-13 is: \u201cFaith opens our eyes to human life in all its grandeur and beauty.\u201d<\/p>\n

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops\u2019 Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities has published a packet of materials for priests, parish groups and other organizations.<\/p>\n

The packet includes several brochures, each one addressing a different human life issue. Topics include: resources for those facing an unplanned pregnancy; religious liberty; conscience protection in health care; marriage; contraceptives and women\u2019s well-being; physician-assisted suicide; and pornography.<\/p>\n

One pamphlet, titled \u201cThe Call to Greatness,\u201d is aimed specifically at young people, encouraging more of them to get involved in the pro-life movement and build on what youths have already been doing to promote \u201cthe culture of life\u201d as youth ministers, religion teachers, lobbyists, speakers and leaders.<\/p>\n

In his statement, Cardinal DiNardo cited the \u201cstaggering loss of life\u201d through abortion and \u201cconsequent need for healing\u201d afterward. He discussed the destruction of \u201cextra\u201d embryos and the \u201cselective reduction\u201d of children in utero during fertility procedures; continued promotion of embryo-destructive stem-cell research; and euthanasia.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
